چکیده
Abstract Radiation induced pseudoprogression (PsP) of brain tumors is defined radiologically as new or enlarging areas non-tumor magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhancement developing within the initial 3-6 months after completing radiation. Distinguishing PsP from genuine tumor progression utmost importance in deciding clinical course a patient. Although it typically diagnosed radiologically, obtaining tissue histopathology can clarify diagnostic uncertainty. However, there no consensus on defining pathologically. We present case 38-year-old man with glioblastoma, IDH-wild type, CNS WHO Grade 4 (MGMT promoter methylated) steroid-refractory PsP, and correlate both radiologic pathologic features. After treatment gross total resection radiation concurrent temozolomide, he developed contrast-enhancing, mass-neutral enhancing lesion consistent which did not resolve despite cycles temozolomide prolonged steroid treatment. The was resected, pathological examination demonstrated non-pseudopallisading necrosis, numerous macrophages, astrocytosis, hyalinization blood vessels, low mitotic activity parenchyma residual infiltrative glioma. These features were radiation-treatment effect supported diagnosis PsP. Over time, varying definitions for include percentage threshold necrosis per sample. authors recognize potential sampling bias. Therefore, we recommend including treatment-related effects coupled absence proliferation results. fibrinoid eosinophilic coagulation necrosis. From therapeutic standpoint, important to comment presence glioma cell proliferation. This highlights unique paring focal correlative sections MRI has been previously presented.

Pseudoprogression in glioblastoma.
TO THE EDITOR: Brandes et al are to be congratulated for their article describing a phenomenon of apparent tumor progression in newly diagnosed patients with glioblastoma (GBM) treated with concurrent temozolomide (TMZ) and radiotherapy (RT). Of 208 patients treated with the regimen, 103 were analyzed for O-methylguanineDNA methyltransferase (MGMT) tumor content, radiographic course during ther...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Pseudoprogression is a frequent phenomenon observed since the introduction of postoperative therapy with radiotherapy and temozolomide (RT/TMZ) in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients. However, the criteria defining pseudoprogression, its incidence, the time of occurrence and its impact on therapy and outcome remain poorly defined. METHODS The objective of this study ...
متن کاملImpact of Resecting Radiation Necrosis and Pseudoprogression on Survival of Patients with Glioblastoma.
INTRODUCTION Radiation necrosis (RN) and pseudoprogression are known as postradiation treatment effects and may simulate tumor progression. The disease course of glioblastoma patients who had developed RN and the impact of resecting RN on survival have not been evaluated. This study examines the clinical course of patients considered candidates for repeat surgery for a recurring brain mass prov...
متن کاملLow incidence of pseudoprogression by imaging in newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients treated with cediranib in combination with chemoradiation.
BACKGROUND Chemoradiation (CRT) can significantly modify the radiographic appearance of malignant gliomas, especially within the immediate post-CRT period. Pseudoprogression (PsP) is an increasingly recognized phenomenon in this setting, and is thought to be secondary to increased permeability as a byproduct of the complex process of radiation-induced tissue injury, possibly enhanced by temozol...
