چکیده

Chaco Chachalaca ( Ortalis canicollis) is a declining Neotropical bird, for which our current knowledge about its natural history very limited. Here, we evaluated first time the utility of passive acoustic monitoring, coupled with automated signal recognition software, to monitor Chachalaca, described vocal behavior species across diel and seasonal cycle patterns, proposed an monitoring protocol minimize error in estimation activity rate. We recorded over complete annual at three sites Brazilian Pantanal. The was detected on 99% days, proving that this technique reliable method detecting presence species. vocally active throughout day night, but pattern peaked between 0500 0900. breeding season Pantanal, based changes activity, seems occur during last months dry season, peak August October. Our results could guide future surveys aiming detect species, both using traditional or surveys, evaluate population abundance recorders should be left field minimum period nine days obtain low-error estimate suggest might useful, as complementary tool studies, other cracids, family several threatened are reluctant human presence.

Theoretical Analysis of a Passive Acoustic Brain Monitoring System

An approach based on acoustics and its theoretical analogies to electromagnetism is used in the present research to study the detection of the acoustic wave energy radiated by the thermal random motion of material particles of the brain during activation or caused by pathology. Pressure and particle velocity are calculated in analytical mathematical forms for the case of human brain monitoring,...

Effective beam pattern of the Blainville's beaked whale (Mesoplodon densirostris) and implications for passive acoustic monitoring.

The presence of beaked whales in mass-strandings coincident with navy maneuvers has prompted the development of methods to detect these cryptic animals. Blainville's beaked whales, Mesoplodon densirostris, produce distinctive echolocation clicks during long foraging dives making passive acoustic detection a possibility. However, performance of passive acoustic monitoring depends upon the source...

Flexural monitoring of carbon fiber/epoxy composite by acoustic emission

Carbon / epoxy composite is one of the most useful polymer matrix composites that has special properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio, high hardness, high corrosion resistance, Resistance to nuclear radiation has high consumption in different industries such as aerospace industry. Therefor monitoring of loading of this type of composite is important. In order to determine failure mecha...

Passive Autonomous Acoustic Monitoring of Marine Mammals with Seagliders

The U.S. Navy’s use of tactical mid-frequency active sonar has been linked to marine mammal strandings and fatalities (NMFS 2001). These events have generated legal challenges to the Navy’s peacetime use of mid-frequency sonar, and have limited the Navy’s at-sea anti-submarine warfare training time. Beaked whales may be particularly sensitive to mid-frequency sonar. A mobile, persistent surveil...
