Parametric Studies of a Mercury-Free DBD Lamp

Mercury discharge lamps are often used because of their high efficiency; however, the usage mercury will be restricted or forbidden for safety and environmental purposes. Finding alternative solutions to suppress is major interest. The aim this work increase luminous efficacy a commercial-free flat dielectric barrier lamp (Planilum, St Gobain) in order reach necessary conditions as daily lighting source. made two glass plates separated by gap 2 mm. filled neon xenon mixture. external electrodes transparent ITO (indium tin oxide) deposited on plates. electrical signal applied generates UV-emitting plasma inside gap. Phosphors allow production visible light. original electrode geometry plane-to-plane; induces filamentary discharges. We show that changing plane-to-plane coplanar allows spread all over surface, we can twice (32 lm/W) compared value. Using new geometrical configuration from sinusoidal pulsed greatly improves visual uniformity emitted light lamp.
