Paleo-trade wind directions over the Yangtze Carbonate Platform during the Cambrian–Ordovician, Southern China

Abstract The Sichuan Basin was a part of the Yangtze Carbonate Platform (YCP) during Cambrian–Ordovician, and marine carbonates were deposited in basin this interval. Although previous studies have evaluated paleogeography, paleoclimate paleoecology basin, they primarily focused on biological evolution basin; however, analysis paleogeography is lacking. This study integrated outcrop sedimentological magnetic fabric data to document sedimentary differentiation anisotropy susceptibility (AMS) within YCP. aims infer paleowind directions each epoch Cambrian–Ordovician constrain paleogeographic location northwestern, central southeastern sides YCP characterized by high-energy deposition (e.g. sub-angular rounded intraclasts), medium-energy sub-rounded intraclasts) low-energy angular respectively. centroid D-K max values for Early, Middle Late Cambrian 116° ± 52°, 145° 57° 159° 62° from present north, respectively; corresponding Ordovician 169° 70°, 139° 73° 91° 68° Sedimentary AMS results indicated that prevailing wind Early Cambrian, Ordovician, 296° 325° 57°, 339° 62°, 349° 319° 271° provides evidence via correspondence between over trade winds Northern Southern hemispheres. novelty lies following aspects: (1) it integrates microfacies analyses establish patterns; (2) constrains paleo-hemispheric Cambrian–Ordovician; (3) reference further Cambrian–Ordovician.
