Paid Peering, Settlement-Free Peering, or Both?

چکیده
With the rapid growth of congestion-sensitive and data-intensive applications, traditional settlement-free peering agreements with best-effort delivery often do not meet QoS requirements content providers (CPs). Meanwhile, Internet access (IAPs) feel that revenues from end-users are sufficient to recoup upgrade costs network infrastructures. Consequently, some IAPs have begun offer CPs a new type agreement, called paid peering, under which they provide better data quality for fee. In this article, we model platform where an IAP makes decisions on types offered prices charged end-users. We study optimal schemes IAP, i.e., both choose or only one them, as objective is profit welfare maximization. Our results show 1) should always profit-optimal welfare-optimal schemes, respectively, 2) whether simultaneously other largely driven by traffic, e.g., text video, 3) regulators might want encourage allocate more capacity increasing user welfare.

Recent conflicts between big content and service providers (CSPs) like Netflix, transit providers (TPs), and Internet service providers (ISPs) have generated considerate media attention and ignited a debate on interconnection agreements, market power of last-mile ISPs and net neutrality. We propose an experimental design to analyze a stylized interconnection market that captures key aspects of ...
متن کاملInternet Interconnection Economic Model and its Analysis: Peering and Settlement
Peering and transit are two types of Internet interconnection among ISPs. Peering has been a core concept to sustain Internet industry. However, for the past several years, many ISPs broke their peering arrangement because of asymmetric traffic pattern and asymmetric benefit and cost from the peering. Even though traffic flows are not a good indicator of the relative benefit of an Internet inte...

Peering arrangements between Internet Service Providers (ISP’s), in which providers agree to carry traffic originating from a peer, are common in the Internet. A common contractual peering agreement between smaller ISPs is “Bill-and-Keep,” where no money changes hands between the peers. Using a simple economic model, we investigate the situation when ISPs who have access to a transit ISP, capab...

What I am going to describe is the birth of the quark model as a viable, experimentally confirmed description of the structure of hadrons. The qua...
