چکیده

Abstract Background Peri-appendiceal inflammation (PAI) is often found in patients with left-sided ulcerative colitis (UC) or proctitis. However, there still no consensus on the clinical significance of PAI. This study aimed to identify PAI UC as a prognosis factor. Methods We retrospectively collected medical records and endoscopic results diagnosed left side proctitis between January 2013 December 2021. According presence PAI, we divided into non-PAI groups. Demographic features course two groups were analyzed. Results A total 107 (41 site UC, 56 proctitis) enrolled, which 52 group 55 There was difference most demographic variables During follow-up period 51 months for 46 group, respectively, disease relapse rate (47.1% vs 49.1%, p=0.823), cumulative at 1, 3, 5 years (10.7%, 26.2%, 34.8% 8.39%, 23.0%, 36.7%, treatment escalation (59.6% 41.8%, p=0.066) proximal extension (25% 25.5%, p=0.957) however, new occurrence during associated (55.6% 19.6%, p=0.037) In this study, oral 5-aminosalicylate (ASA) administered regardless extent disease. 5-ASA did not affect (37.1% 66.7%, p=0.550) (28.6% 33.3%, p=1.000). Clinical Significance of Isolated Peri-Appendiceal Lesions in Patients With Left Sided Ulcerative Colitis

BACKGROUND Ulcerative colitis is classically described as a condition originating in the rectum and extending proximally towards the cecum. In recent years, a discontinuous peri-appendiceal lesion has been described. Our aim was to evaluate the risk of progression to pancolitis in patients presenting with an isolated peri-appendiceal lesion on ileocolonoscopy. METHODS Endoscopy databases at t...

Peri-appendiceal inflammation in an 8-year-old child with chronic ulcerative colitis.

The peri-appendiceal red patch (PARP) or appendiceal orifice inflammation (AOI) is a known complication of non-pancolonic ulcerative colitis (UC), but it is not well documented in the pediatric pathology and gastroenterology literature. Here we describe the youngest patient with this manifestation to date and provide a brief review on PARP associated UC.

Long-term outcome of patients with distal ulcerative colitis and inflammation of the appendiceal orifice.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Skip inflammation of the appendiceal orifice has been described in distal UC (UC-IAO) but long-term clinical outcomes are poorly established. Our aim was to evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes of UC-IAO as compared to classic distal UC. METHODS Patients with UC-IAO were identified from the local IBD database. Disease outcome and therapeutic requirements during follow-...

Serum Interleukin-23 Levels in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis

Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of inflammation. Interleukin 23 (IL-23) is a newly identified cytokine with increased expression in inflamed biopsies of colon mucosa in patients with Crohn's disease; however, there is inconsistent evidence on its role in ulcerative colitis. Objective: We aimed to compare serum IL-23 level in patients with ulcerative colitis an...

Expression and clinical significance of CD4+ CD45+ peripheral blood T cells in patients with ulcerative colitis.

The objectives of this study were to explore the expression of peripheral blood CD4+CD45+ T cells in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and determine its clinical value. We selected 80 patients with UC from the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning Medical University from March 2012 to December 2013. Of these, 27 had mildly active, 28 moderately active, and 25 severely active UC. We also rec...
