Ozone ageing: experimental methods on pristine and protected natural rubber

چکیده

Abstract Many industrial applications require natural rubber (NR) as an irreplaceable polymer for its unique behaviour resistance to crack growth. The damage caused by ozone, seen ageing accelerator, influences the lifetime of components. data on ozone-induced experiments are often incomplete or remain unpublished, whereas comprehensive databases other environmental loads oxygen do exist. A variety experimental methods is used investigate mechanism ozone. ultimate scope collect physically based suitable include it in thermo-mechanical modelling material’s full behaviour. Therefore, NR mixtures, without and with antiozonants: p -phenylenediamine (PPD) paraffinic wax, analysed. First, accelerated, artificial method developed reconstruct real laboratory. Experiments conducted henceforth microhardness tests, uniaxial tensile tests IR spectroscopy determine elastic modulus, stress response molecular change due ageing. Independent static deformation during process, both antiozonants show a significant protection effect up maximum loading 75 pphm ozone concentration 111 h at 50% relative humidity 40 $$^\circ $$ ∘ C. Paraffinic wax completely prevents measureable mechanical no surface cracks visible, though spectra reveal ageing-induced reactions, pristine soley 6PPD protected compounds clearly distinguishable their picture. Neither material compounds, loaded strain ozone-ageing, contains depth further than 300 $$\upmu {\textrm{m}}$$ μ m . generated helps distinguish from thermo-oxidative that described comprehensively literature. In conclusion, proves degradation quantifies some characteristic changes loading.

Ageing of Natural Rubber under Stress

We report a dynamical-mechanical study of stress relaxation at small deformation in a natural (polyisoprene) rubber well above its glass transition temperature Tg. We find that an almost complete relaxation of stress takes place over very long relaxation periods, even though the elastic network is retained. The relaxation rate and the long-time equilibrium modulus are sensitive functions of tem...

The Cyclization of Natural Rubber

The effects of solvent, temperature, time, weight percent of catalyst on the rate and mechanism of cyclization of natural rubber (NR) was studied in toluene and xylene solutions having tin tetra chloride catalyst (SnCl4). Iodometric titration show, with 8% SnCl4 (based on polymer weight) cyclization occurs, leaving 27.4% of the total unsaturation. Infrared spectra of c...

Natural rubber latex allergy.

Immediate hypersensitivity to natural rubber latex (NRL) has become increasingly common during the last 20 years. It is currently one of the most frequently encountered occupational diseases among the healthcare workers and a problem even in other occupations where protective gloves are used. Several groups at high risk for developing NRL allergy have been defined, including healthcare workers ...

Natural rubber-clay nanocomposites

The mechanical properties of non-vulcanized natural rubber and dialyzed natural rubber-clay nanocomposites have been studied by uniaxial deformations to evaluate the reinforcement efficiency of the clay. We show that while non-rubber molecules contribute to auto-reinforcement, removal of these molecules improves significantly the performance of clay as reinforcement agent. These mechanical prop...
