Oxidation Behavior of Intermetallic Phase and Its Contribution to the Oxidation Resistance in Fe-Cr-Zr Ferritic Alloy

Oxidation resistance of the ferritic Fe-Cr-W-Zr alloy with dispersed Fe2Zr phase were investigated in stagnant air and static oxygen-saturated liquid Pb-Bi eutectic separately considering service environment advanced generation IV nuclear reactors. A duplex structure including an outer Fe2O3 layer inner (Fe,Cr,Zr)2O3 is developed after oxidation air, while a three-layered consisting magnetite layer, Fe-Cr spinel internal zone formed eutectic. The shows delayed respect to α-Fe eutectic, which significantly affects behaviors alloy. After at 923 K, incorporated scale would obstruct diffusion metal/oxygen across scale, resulting nonuniform behavior. 823 reduction Fe supply magnetite/Fe-Cr interface present adjacent phase, might lead creation cavities prolonged time.
