Owens–Wendt Characterization of Femtosecond-Laser-Textured Hydrophobic Aluminum Surfaces

The eligibility of applying the Owens–Wendt approach to determining free surface energy liquid-repellent aluminum surfaces, with micro- and nanotextures formed by a femtosecond laser, was considered. This has been shown be applicable using two essential parameters that can derived from graphs. first is related fraction contact area between liquid solid in Cassie state. second degree intrinsic polarity material or applied organic modifier. presented interpretation used compare repellency obtained textures. A microtexture period 60 μm groove width 45 most repellent. Among modifiers, 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroctyltriethoxysilane effective, stearic acid only slightly inferior, but promising terms cost environmental friendliness. It spontaneous hydrophobization provided angle water up 159°, stability such textures inferior considered modifiers.
