INVESTIGATION OF BOUNDARY LAYERS IN A SINGULAR PERTURBATION PROBLEM INCLUDING A 4TH ORDER ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
In this paper, we investigate a singular perturbation problem including a fourth order O.D.E. with general linear boundary conditions. Firstly, we obtain the necessary conditions of solution of O.D.E. by making use of fundamental solution, then by compatibility of these conditions with boundary conditions, we determine that, for given perturbation problem, whether boundary layer is formed or not.
متن کاملSteep wave fronts on extrudates of polymer melts and solutions: lubrication layers and boundary lubrication
Steep wave fronts tend to develop in many regimes of lubricated, slipping flows in which waves appear. Problems of slip, spurt, fracture and extrudate distortion can be framed in terms of lubrication theory with paradigms arising from the lubrication of heavy oil with water for some problems and concepts from the theory of boundary lubrication for others. In water lubricated pipelines, high pre...
متن کاملA new numerical approach of a lubrication free boundary problem
A combination of a semidiscretized scheme and an iterative method is applied to a free boundary problem. The considered problem is issued from a cavitation model in lubrication theory and treats on the determination of the cavitation area. Estimates L∞(Ω) which provide the convergence of the approximated solution is obtained. Finally, some numerical test examples are presented to illustrate the...
متن کاملBoundary Layers in a Semilinear Parabolic Problem
We study a singular perturbation problem for a certain type of reaction diiusion equation with a space-dependent reaction term. We compare the eeect that the presence of boundary layers versus internal layers has on the existence and stability of stationary solutions. In particular, we show that the associated eigenvalues are of diierent orders of magnitude for the two kinds of layers.
متن کاملAbout an inverse problem for a free boundary compressible problem in hydrodynamic lubrication
In this paper an inverse problem is considered for a non coercive partial differential equation, issued from a mass conservation cavitation model for a slightly compressible fluid. The cavitation phenomenon and compressibility take place and are described by the Elrod model. The existence of an optimal solution is proven. Optimality conditions are derived and some numerical results are given.
