چکیده
Objectives: A modified Blalock-Taussig (mBT) shunt procedure is a common palliative surgery used to treat infants and children with cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD). This study aimed report the outcomes of undergoing mBT procedures in Oman. In addition, risk factors associated early mortality, inter-stage mortality reintervention were assessed. Methods: retrospective cohort was conducted from January 2016 December 2018 at National Heart Centre, Muscat, All paediatric patients CCHD as primary during this period included. Data retrieved electronic hospital records. Kaplan-Meier survival curves describe overall survival. Results: total 50 included study. The in-hospital rates 10% 6.7%, respectively. Preoperative mechanical ventilation (odds ratio [OR]: 3.00, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.98–4.76; P = 0.007) cardiopulmonary bypass (OR: 4.09, CI: 2.44–6.85; 0.002) significant for mortality. In-hospital surgical 12% 13.3%, Following procedure, median time second-stage 15.5 months (range: 5.0–34.0 months). Conclusion: findings support those reported international research regarding risks surgeries. particular, preoperative mortality.

The modified Blalock-Taussig (BT) shunt is a common palliative procedure for congenital cyanotic heart disease (CHD) with diminished pulmonary blood flow(1). In developing countries, definitive surgery usually gets delayed due to limited resources and expertise(2). Children with cyanotic CHD and BT shunt often present to the pediatrician resulting in some of the complications of BT shunt being ...

متن کاملRisk Factors for Thrombosis, Overshunting and Death in Infants after Modified Blalock-Taussig Shunt.
BACKGROUND The Modified Blalock-Taussig shunt procedure can provide increased flow of blood to the lungs for babies born with certain congenital heart defects. We evaluated 44 subjects under 2 years of age who had a Modified Blalock-Taussig shunt (MBTS) procedure performed from 2009-2013, to investigate risk factors for thrombosis, overshunting and death. METHODS The study subjects included i...
