چکیده
Abstract Background Cholesteatoma is an atticoantral disease that potentially causes life-threatening complications. Therefore, canal wall down mastoidectomy a well-established technique to eradicate the disease, especially in extensive cholesteatoma. Aim To evaluate status of dry ear and hearing outcome post-retrograde mastoidectomy. Methods A retrospective study patients with cholesteatoma who underwent modified radical (MRM), form between January 2014 December 2018. Results Fifty-seven were included mean age 40 years. The majority cases adults, 86%, 14% children. Most them complained discharge (73.7%), followed by loss (31.6%). Intraoperatively, was primarily found involving mastoid air cells, antrum, attic, mesotympanum (47.4%). presence granulation tissue noted 57.9% cases. Furthermore, 73.7 % ossicular chain erosion involved all ossicles (47.6 %). In 26.3 cases, tegmen identified. Facial dehiscence accounted for 15.8% MRM sclerotic 10.5%, lateral semicircular 5.3%. Up 3 months follow-up post-MRM showed 70.2% had ear. After 6 months, there complaints subsequent follow-up. this study, 33 out 57 postoperative evaluation, 21.2 improvement air-bone gap. Conclusion Canal treatment choice achieve safe maintaining functional outcomes.

Endoscopic transcanal modified canal-wall-down mastoidectomy for cholesteatoma
Attic cholesteatoma with antral extension in tight sclerotic mastoid cavities is a common presentation that creates difficult decision-making intraoperatively. Drilling through a sclerotic and small mastoid cavity, keeping the canal wall intactis often difficult and increases the risk of serious injury. Consequently, a canal-wall-down mastoidectomy is often performed. The endoscopic transcanal ...
متن کاملCanal Wall down Mastoidectomy and Tympanoplasty in Cholesteatoma Surgery: Ten Years’ Experience
Tympanomastoid surgery for cholesteatoma is a procedure designed to eliminate the disease and maintain a safe and dry ear. This retrospective study was designed to evaluate the functional results of cholesteatoma patients who underwent canal wall down mastoidectomy in conjunction with a tympanoplasty. Operated ears due to chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma were considered for the study. Th...
متن کاملThe pros and cons of canal wall up versus canal wall down mastoidectomy for cholesteatoma
Introduction It is widely accepted that cholesteatoma almost invariably requires surgical management. There has been ongoing debate regarding the optimal technique since intact canal wall or canal wall up (CWU) mastoidectomy was developed in the decade following the widespread introduction of the operating microscope in 1953. At the time of the national comparative audit of mastoid surgery over...

OBJECTIVE To examine 10-year results of canal wall down mastoidectomy (CWDM) for acquired cholesteatoma. METHODS Medical records of 136 patients with cholesteatoma who has undergone CWDM in a university hospital and who had a follow-up of at least 10 years were checked. RESULTS During follow-up, 21% of patients had undergone one revision operation and 3% two revisions. The recurrence rate o...

OBJECTIVE A previous pilot series described a hybrid mastoidectomy technique, canal wall window (CWW), which substituted for the canal wall down (CWD) procedure and involved slitting the posterior canal wall. The current, larger series compares the results of the CWW procedure with conventional surgical techniques. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective analysis of 78 pediatric ears. SETTING Academic t...
