Osteonecrosis of the hip treated by intertrochanteric osteotomy. A four- to 15-year follow-up.
We have reviewed the results of 106 intertrochanteric osteotomies performed for osteonecrosis of the femoral head. The average age at operation was 47.5 years. At two years from operation 71% of the hips had a clinically satisfactory result and at final follow-up, an average of 8.2 years after operation, 58% continued to have excellent or good rating. Twenty-four hips had needed total replaceme...
متن کاملIntertrochanteric osteotomy in osteoarthritis of the hip.
The name of McMurray (1935, 1939) is firmly associated with intertrochanteric osteotomy for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip, although this method was based on the bifurcation operation of Lorenz (1919) and was suggested by several previous authorsAshley (1923), Galland (1930), Hey Groves (1933) and Lowendorf (1933). There is still, however, no unanimity about the technique of operati...
متن کاملChallenging case of Muscle Bridge; a 15-year follow-up of a patient
Background: Anatomically myocardial bridging (MB) consists of either superficial myocardial fibers that traverse over the LAD or deep fibers that encircle the coronary artery. In this study, we present a patient with myocardial bridging, who was primarily diagnosed with coronary artery disease which did not properly respond to full-dose medical treatment but benefited from coronary artery bypas...
متن کاملOsteonecrosis of the femoral head. Simple varus intertrochanteric osteotomy.
We present the long-term results of simple varus intertrochanteric osteotomy for osteonecrosis of the femoral head. We followed 26 hips in 20 patients, with a mean age at the time of surgery of 36 years, for a mean of 12.5 years. The mean varus angulation was 23 degrees. The outcome in 19 of the hips (73%) was good or excellent; seven (27%) had a fair or poor result, with four needing some form...
متن کاملCurved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy for osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
We reviewed the outcome of curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy in the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head in 20 hips. A mean varus angulation of 31 degrees was obtained by the osteotomy. The ratio of intact area on the weight-bearing portion increased from 19% to 61%. The mean elevation and lateral displacement of the greater trochanter were 1.2 cm and 0.5 cm, respectively. Thes...
