Osteoarthritis disease progression through the lower extremity: A review

چکیده
It has long been felt that osteoarthritis is the result of wear and tear. Many physicians are not aware biological science now validated this increased “wear tear” on joint loading-induced stresses undermine cell function aging. The loading creates shear forces cartilage leads to oxidants. These oxidants then cause chondrocyte premature aging, leading development what we know as osteoarthritis.
Studies have also found a significant association between foot pain knee hip pain. Obesity and Lower Extremity Osteoarthritis
Obesity and osteoarthritis are complex diseases to which multiple interacting factors contribute. The moderate association between obesity and knee joint osteoarthritis reflects the amplification by obesity of role of joint loading in the development and progression of osteoarthritis. However, joint loading is insufficient to explain the disparities between the incidence of knee OA in obese peo...

BACKGROUND Lower extremity artery disease (LE-PAD) is one of the most common manifestations of atherosclerosis, particularly in elderly patients, and it is related to a high cardiovascular risk. DESCRIPTION It is well established that statin therapy is characterized by crucial benefits on cardiovascular system by limiting atherosclerotic progression and reducing cardiovascular events and mort...

Lower extremity venous disease is extremely common, with varicose veins remaining the most frequently encountered venous condition followed by chronic venous insuffi ciency.1,2 The two conditions often occur together, but each condition may also be present clinically without the other. Lower extremity venous disease comprises a clinical spectrum ranging from completely asymptomatic telangiectas...

Eight to 12 million people in United States have PAD (Allison et al. 2007). Only ~10% of patients with PAD have classic intermittent claudication (IC), ~50% have atypical leg symptoms and ~40% are asymptomatic (Hiatt 2001). Its prevalence significantly increases with age; 12 – 20% of those above the age of 65 years suffer from PAD (Ostchega al. 2007). The prevalence of PAD is similar in men and...
متن کاملThe effect of whole-body vibration training on the lower extremity muscles\' electromyographic activities in patients with knee osteoarthritis
Background: Whole-Body Vibration Training (WBVT) is a novel neuromuscular training method that has been recently developed as a rehabilitation tool. The purpose of this study was to determine whether WBVT is effective on electromyographic activity of the muscles of the lower limbs in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: The study was designed as a single blinded randomized clinic...
