Osmium isotope evidence for rapid melt migration towards the Moho in the Oman ophiolite

چکیده

The oceanic crust, covering two-thirds of the Earth's surface, is formed along mid-oceanic ridges by crystallization at shallow levels melts depth partial melting mantle peridotite. Yet, process melt transport to ridge axis remains poorly understood. Ophiolites, which provide a window into uppermost mantle, contain dunite bodies often interpreted as relics flow conduits, pyroxene dissolution during melt-peridotite interaction. Here, we present structural and geochemical data on peridotites from southeastern Oman ophiolite where three types dunite, corresponding Moho transition zone (MTZ), main basal sections, are identified. We focus osmium isotopes, particularly well-adapted tracing through peridotites. Osmium isotope signatures host harzburgites accord with abyssal peridotite values do not vary systematically setting. In contrast, Os compositions depend context. Basal dunites display similar harzburgite values, while MTZ have highly radiogenic those overlying requiring extensive interaction more than MORB. Modeling shows that percolating equilibrating channels would acquire unradiogenic compositions, inconsistent observed lower crust. Thus, our findings require without equilibration or harzburgite, arguing for rapid least chemically isolated migration source Moho.

Dunite distribution in the Oman Ophiolite: Implications for melt flux through porous dunite conduits

[1] Dunites in the mantle section of the Oman ophiolite represent conduits for chemically isolated melt transport through the shallow mantle beneath oceanic spreading centers. These dunite melt conduits exhibit a scale-invariant power law relationship between width and cumulative abundance, as measured over 4 orders of magnitude. We use this size/frequency distribution to assess several hypothe...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Platinum-group Minerals in Podiform Chromitites of the Oman Ophiolite

Chromitite lenses rich in the platinum-group elements (PGE) have recently been discovered in the deeper part of the mantle section of the northern part of the Oman ophiolite. In terms of stratigraphic level, there are two types of chromitite: Moho transition zone (MTZ) and mantle types. The mantle type can be further classified into two subtypes: PGE-poor and PGE-rich. Platinum-group minerals (...
