Orogenic belt resulting from ocean-continent collision

چکیده
Abstract Orogenic belts have been thought to form through plate convergence, involving subduction of oceanic lithosphere at continental margins (accretionary orogens), which may ultimately lead ocean closure and continent-continent collision (collisional orogens). Intraplate orogens away from known, but the mechanisms controlling their evolution are poorly understood. The South China craton, including Yangtze Cathaysia blocks, underwent a Paleozoic orogenesis that formed >500-km-wide orogenic belt with widespread granitoids unconformably overlain by Devonian cover sequences. pre-Devonian basement rocks were subjected strong deformation greenschist-to amphibolite-facies metamorphism 460–400 Ma. magmatism was characterized voluminous crustally derived Silurian associated incorporation ancient crustal materials 450–440 Ma addition juvenile mantle-derived melts 420–410 Based on absence arc-like existence ophiolites in West terrane, geochemical evidence crust existed beneath East geophysical contrasting lithospheres both sides two discrete slabs fault boundary, we propose this between terranes driven far-field forces during assembly Gondwana, terrane represents overthrusted terrane. Numerical modeling shows type can explain dynamics craton be mechanism for some subduction-related igneous metamorphic lacking.

Middle Paleozoic convergent orogenic belts in western Inner Mongolia (China): framework, kinematics, geochronology and implications for tectonic evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt
Based mainly on field geological observation and geochronologic data, six tectonic units have been recognized in western Inner Mongolia (China), including, from south to north: North China Craton (NCC), Southern Orogenic Belt (SOB), Hunshandake Block (HB), Northern Orogenic Belt (NOB), South Mongolia microcontinent (SMM), and Southern margin of Ergun Block (SME), suggesting that the tectonic fr...

Exhumation Settings, Part I: Relatively Simple Cases
Exhumation has been recognized as an important problem in tectonics and can be achieved by normal faulting, ductile thinning, and erosion. The exhumation of ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) rocks is the most challenging and least understood aspect of the exhumation problem. In this review, we focus on a variety of geologic settings with the goal of characterizing exhumation rates and maximum depths of ...
متن کاملA crustal model of the ultrahigh-pressure Dabie Shan orogenic belt, China, derived from deep seismic refraction profiling
We present a new crustal cross section through the east-west trending ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) Dabie Shan orogenic belt, east central China, based on a 400km-long seismic refraction profile. Data from our profile reveal that the cratonal blocks north and south of the orogen are composed of 35-km-thick crust consisting of three layers (upper, middle, and lower crust) with average seismic velocit...
متن کامل40Ar/39Ar thermochronology from the northwestern Dabie Shan: constraints on the evolution of Qinling–Dabie orogenic belt, east-central China
Seven structural units with distinct kinematics have been recognized in the northwestern Dabie Shan (114°E– 115°E and 31°N–32°N), east-central China. They are, from north to south: (1) the north-verging Mafan fold belt (MFB) involving early Paleozoic metamorphic rocks; (2) the Liangting melange belt (LMB), which is separated from the MFB by a south-dipping thrust and consists of gneissic and ma...
