چکیده
We present a simple atomistic model for the description of noncollinear coupling in magnetic multilayers with hybrid spacer layers made Ru alloyed to ferromagnetic atoms such as Fe. In contrast previous analytical and micromagnetic models that explain by means lateral fluctuations constant, presented accounts atom-atom all three spatial dimensions within layer. The is able accurately predict dependence macroscopic bilinear biquadratic constants on spacer-layer composition thickness, showing much better quantitative agreement than lateral-fluctuation models. Moreover, it predicts virtually independent exchange stiffness layers, which goes beyond predictions This prediction validated experimental measurements.

Microscopic origin of magnetoelectric coupling in noncollinear multiferroics.
An universal microscopic mechanism to understand the interplay between the electric and magnetic degrees of freedom in noncollinear multiferroics is developed. In a system with a strong spin-orbit coupling, we show that there is a pure electric mechanism that the ferroelectricity is generated by noncollinear magnetism through an electric current cancellation process, which saves the pure electr...
متن کاملNoncollinear Maker's fringe measurements of second-order nonlinear optical layers.
A novel technique for characterizing thin-film second-order nonlinearities with submicrometer resolution for the film's depth is proposed. This method is substantially a variation of the classic one-beam Maker's fringe technique and uses the second harmonic generated by two noncollinear fundamental beams. Compared with that for the one-beam case, this configuration reduces the coherence length ...
متن کاملNoncollinear coupling between magnetic adatoms in carbon nanotubes
The long-range character of the exchange coupling between localized magnetic moments indirectly mediated by the conduction electrons of metallic hosts often plays a significant role in determining the magnetic order of low-dimensional structures. In addition to this indirect coupling, here we show that the direct exchange interaction that arises when the moments are not too far apart may induce...
متن کاملOrigin of self-reversed thermoremanent magnetization.
The ability of certain magnetic minerals to acquire a remanent magnetization that opposes the direction of the Earth's magnetic field has fascinated rock magnetists since its discovery in 1951. Here, we determine the origin of this phenomenon, which is termed self-reversed thermoremanent magnetization (SR-TRM). We present direct transmission electron microscopy observations of negative exchange...
متن کاملSubpicosecond magnetization reversal across ferrimagnetic compensation points.
Subpicosecond magnetization reversal is experimentally demonstrated by ultrafast heating of a ferrimagnet across its compensation points, under an applied magnetic field. While the reversal is initiated by crossing the magnetization compensation temperature, the short reversal time is related to the angular momentum compensation, where the dynamics of the system is highly accelerated owing to t...
