Organic phosphorus leaching risk from agricultural soils across China

چکیده

Abstract Background Leaching from agricultural land is one of the major pathways phosphorus (P) loss soils to waterbody and may induce adverse effect on territorial environment. Past studies usually focused inorganic P (P I ) while ignored role organic O in leaching process. A total 63 soil samples were collected across China with various types including 21 paddy soils, 13 chernozems, 11 red other type ( n = 18) identify potential risk lands explore their relationships basic properties, Fe/Al oxides, status. Results CaCl 2 -extractable (CaCl -P accounted for 8–89% (35% average) T available (AP over half (57 ± 25%). was positively correlated AP under all except soils. strongly chernozem r 0.968), 0.901). Conclusions greatly contributed should be included assessment leaching. The control excess accumulation both fractions key point cut down Mitigation measures limit established based types. Topsoil and subsoil properties influence phosphorus leaching from four agricultural soils.

Eutrophication, a major problem in many fresh and brackish waters, is largely caused by nonpoint-source pollution by P from agricultural soils. This lysimeter study examined the influence of P content, physical properties, and sorption characteristics in topsoil and subsoil on P leaching measured during 21 mo in 1-m-long, undisturbed soil columns of two clay and two sandy soils. Total P losses ...

Assessing strategies to mitigate phosphorus leaching from drained clay soils

Assessing mitigation of phosphorus (P) leaching from subsurface drainage systems is challenging due to high spatial and temporal variation in leaching. Mean measured total P leaching from a clayey soil in an eight-year study period (four replicates per treatment) was (kg ha-1 year-1): 1.21 from shallow autumn tillage (ShT), 0.84 from unfertilised fallow (UF), 0.81 from conventional autumn ploug...

Substantial dust loss of bioavailable phosphorus from agricultural soils

Phosphorus (P) is an essential element in terrestrial ecosystems. Knowledge on the role of dust in the biogeochemical cycling of phosphorus is very limited with no quantitative information on aeolian (by wind) P fluxes from soils. The aim of this study is to focus on P cycling via dust emissions under common land-use practices in an arid environment by integration of sample analyses and aeolian...

Long-term fate of nitrate fertilizer in agricultural soils is not necessarily related to nitrate leaching from agricultural soils.

Accounting for the fate of inorganic N fertilizer in agricultural systems is critical to sustainable production. Sebilo et al. (1) provide a unique long-term record of NO3 fertilizer fate that demonstrates N molecules from a discrete fertilizer application are transferred to soil organic matter (SOM) and subsequently mineralized over the course of approximately 100 y, during which they contribu...
