چکیده

Integrated organic petrographic and geochemical analyses were made on organic-rich marine carbonate mixed clastic-carbonate rocks of Middle–Late Jurassic Early Cretaceous age from the Shushan Basin, Egypt to evaluate their hydrocarbon potential. Analyses allowed identification depositional settings, paleoclimate, three third order genetic stratigraphic sequences (SQ) with deposits assigned highstand (HST), lowstand (LST) transgressive systems tracts (TST). Deposition source in rifting Basin resulted interaction between Neotethyan sea level changes, tectonic, climate. The good reducing conditions developed during (Bajocian–Kimmeridgian) second rises climatically induced sedimentation deposition carbonates Khatatba Formation (SQ 1, early–middle TST) inner–middle shelf settings under anoxic–dysoxic conditions. Late (late Kimmeridgian) uplifting organic-lean clastic–carbonate strata Masajid latest same shelfal conditions, which experienced a notable dilution matter. late TST SQ 1 are very oil-producing rocks, where they show average generative potential mature oil-to early wet gas-window) highly oil-prone (Valanginian–Albian) associated overprinted Valanginian–Hauterivian rises, Aptian level, Albian rise. coeval climatic shift toward more humid clastic-dominated regressive units 2 (HST LST Alam El Bueib, Alamein, Dahab formations) 3 lower–upper Kharita Formation) marginal oxic HST poor richness early–mid (early–peak oil-window) oil/gas-prone gas/oil-prone matter, respectively exhibit fair oil rock no gas generation.

Stratigraphic Analysis of Upper Cretaceous Rocks in the Mahajanga Basin, Northwestern Madagascar: Implications for Ancient and Modern Faunas.

Upper Cretaceous strata of the Mahajanga Basin, northwestern Madagascar, yield some of the most significant and exquisitely preserved vertebrate fossils known from Gondwana. The sedimentology of these strata and their stratigraphic relations have been the focus of renewed geological investigations during the course of five expeditions since 1993. We here designate stratotypes and formalize the ...

Geochemical Characteristics and Hydrocarbon Generation Modelling of Early Triassic to Late Cretaceous Formations within Ogaden Basin, Ethiopia

The major goal of this study is the evaluation of the source rock of Ogaden Basin using Rock-Eval Pyrolysis, Vitrinite reflectance (%Ro), and well log data of the Permo-Triassic and the Mesozoic sequences including Karro, Hamanlei, and Urandab Formations. Burial history and level of thermal maturity of the Bodle-1 well, the Calub-1 well and the Hilala-2 well were modeled based on the calibratio...

Organic Geochemical Evaluation of Madbi Source Rock, Al-Jawf Basin, NE Central Yemen

Organic geochemical evaluation of the Madbi Formation as the main source rock of the Al-Jawf Basin, NE Central Yemen was the main objective of this study. The organic geochemical methods used in the study include: rock-eval pyrolysis, total organic carbon, and optical measurements as the vitrinite reflectance and thermal alteration index. In this study, 67 well core and side-well core samples o...
