چکیده

ABSTRACT Most studies about soil organic carbon stock changes in the Cerrado (Brazilian Savanna) biome are either related to field data collected clayey Ferralsols or different land uses, as if they were equilibrium. This study aimed evaluate effect of tillage systems and crop sequences on yield, a sandy Ferralsol from Bahia, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with four replicates. Soil samples after fve years cotton, soybean maize monocropping under heavy disk harrow leveling (conventional tillage), rotation green manure cover (no-tillage). Additional non-cultivated site (Neotropical Savanna, sensu stricto). conservation practices such no-tillage favored at 0-40 cm layer, highest values reaching 36.03 Mg ha−1. accrued conventional monoculture lower than no-tillage, which ranged 30.9 54.9 %, increasing annual rate 2.36 ha−1 during years. soybean-maize-cotton rotation, combination manure, increased cotton yields, simultaneous accumulation soil.

Carbon storage in soil size fractions under two cacao agroforestry systems in Bahia, Brazil.

Shaded perennial agroforestry systems contain relatively high quantities of soil carbon (C) resulting from continuous deposition of plant residues; however, the extent to which the C is sequestered in soil will depend on the extent of physical protection of soil organic C (SOC). The main objective of this study was to characterize SOC storage in relation to soil fraction-size classes in cacao (...

Soil organic carbon dynamics and crop yield for different crop rotations in a degraded ferruginous tropical soil in a semi-arid region: a simulation approach

In recent years, simulation models have been used as a complementary tool for research and for quantifying soil carbon sequestration under widely varying conditions. This has improved the understanding and prediction of soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics and crop yield responses to soil and climate conditions and crop management scenarios. The goal of the present study was to estimate the chang...

Enhanced top soil carbon stocks under organic farming.

It has been suggested that conversion to organic farming contributes to soil carbon sequestration, but until now a comprehensive quantitative assessment has been lacking. Therefore, datasets from 74 studies from pairwise comparisons of organic vs. nonorganic farming systems were subjected to metaanalysis to identify differences in soil organic carbon (SOC). We found significant differences and ...

Managing soil fertility in organic farming systems

12 Complex relationships exist between different components of the organic farm and 13 the quantity and quality of the end products depend on the functioning of the whole 14 system. As such, it is very difficult to isolate soil fertility from production and 15 environmental aspects of the system. Crop rotation is the central tool that integrates 16 the maintenance and development of soil fertil...

Soil carbon sequestration in rainfed production systems in the semiarid tropics of India.

Severe soil organic carbon (SOC) depletion is a major constraint in rainfed agroecosystems in India because it directly influences soil quality, crop productivity and sustainability. The magnitude of soil organic, inorganic and total carbon stocks in the semi-arid bioclimate is estimated at 2.9, 1.9 and 4.8 Pg respectively. Sorghum, finger millet, pearl millet, maize, rice, groundnut, soybean, ...
