Optimizing Maize Belt Width Enhances Productivity in Wheat/Maize Intercropping Systems

چکیده
Wheat/maize intercropping has been widely practiced in northwestern China. It is crucial to optimize the canopy structure and geometric configurations enhance performance of system. This research determined responses intercrops different structures created by wheat/maize systems. Field experiments were carried out 2012, 2013, 2014 at Wuwei, Gansu. Three patterns—six rows wheat alternated with two maize (6W2M), six three (6W3M), four (6W4M)—were compared sole maize. The results showed that plant heights differed between inner border rows, difference was greater for 6W3M system than 6W4M systems had an average land-use equivalent ratio (LER, calculated based on grain yield) 1.25, indicating increase efficiency 25% corresponding crops. shape strips optimized increased productivity significantly more yield 6W2M due belt shape, which resulted soil evaporation negatively affecting intercropped 6W3M. Similarly, facilitated light penetration enhanced reproductive growth increasing cobs per rate (TCR) highest TCR produced a higher growing seasons. width strip significant effect both maize, reduced water evaporation, harmonized distribution, productivity.

Light Competition in Chinese Cabbage/Maize Strip Intercropping Systems
Due to drastic socio-economic changes traditional intercropping systems in China are endangered. New high yielding intercropping systems that can easily be mechanized have to be developed. By using environmental resources more efficiently intercropping often produces higher yields compared to monocropping. Solar radiation as the strongest growth factor plays a key role when designing new interc...

Relay intercropping systems with rice cultivars (WAB450-24-3-2-P18-HB (V4) and WAB56-50), the competitive Cajanus cajan and the weakly competitive Stylosanthes hamata were evaluated in the tropical savanna zone in Côte d’Ivoire. The INTERCOM model for competition served for data analysis and understanding of the system based on phenological, physiological and morphological characteristics of th...
متن کاملAn evaluation of yield in "intercropping of maize and potato"
Abstract To find out how maize and potato can grow and develop in an intercropping system rather than each grown alone in a sole cropping system the following factorial experiment was performend in the frame-work of a randomized complete block three replications in the experimental farm of the faculty of agriculture, Zanjan University in year 2004. Different potato to maize ratios of (1:0), i...
متن کاملIntercropping Enhances Productivity and Maintains the Most Soil Fertility Properties Relative to Sole Cropping
Yield and nutrient acquisition advantages are frequently found in intercropping systems. However, there are few published reports on soil fertility in intercropping relative to monocultures. A field experiment was therefore established in 2009 in Gansu province, northwest China. The treatments comprised maize/faba bean, maize/soybean, maize/chickpea and maize/turnip intercropping, and their cor...
