Abstract Image processing algorithms are essential for clarifying the image and improving ability to recognize distinct characteristics of image. The field digital is widespread in several research technology applications. In many these applications, existence impulsive noise obtained images one most frequent problems. median filter a strong method remove noise; it effectively eliminates salt pepper from main target this paper investigate efficient units be connected general-purpose processor (GPP) FPGA-based embedded systems. exposes three novel techniques, two them specially filtering techniques third used get maximum number any 9 elements array. proposed inspired by Median Of (MOM) algorithm. first tested $$3 \times 3$$ 3 × windows optimized producing expected result high accuracy, short time, reduced comparisons. last technique array extracting same efficiency manner. Furthermore, implemented leveraging advantage parallel FPGA flexible resources satisfy real-time constraints. A comparison between their counterparts literature included. reveals superiority terms accuracy with fewer comparators than previously published techniques. Besides, illustrates how concept beyond can perform pooling convolution neural networks.
