چکیده
Although conventional activated sludge has been demonstrated to be a feasible approach for extracting nitrogenous chemicals and organic pollutants from wastewater, it still number of drawbacks. In this research, pilot-scale biocord-integrated fixed-film (Biocord-IFAS) reactor fed with actual domestic wastewater was operated examine the effect varying hydraulic retention time (HRT) on COD nitrogen removal. The type material employed in study is fibrous polypropylene (biocord), which major difference. contribution Biocord-IFAS removal efficiency reached 94.2% at HRT 8 h gradually decreased 82.9% when reduced 4 h. During investigation period, slight decrease nitrification found shorter HRT. NH4+-N efficiencies HRTs 10, 8, 6, were 97.8%, 98.7%, 97.1%, 96.3%, respectively. average effluent nitrate concentration 5.3 mg/L 10 6 h, but over 30 an SEM analysis results show that microorganisms have formed biocord surface. research potential application IFAS reactors bioremediation procedures employing great processing efficiency.

Optimization of ammonia removal in an integrated fix-film activated sludge using response surface methodology
In this work, removal of ammonia from synthetic wastewater using integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFAS) process was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The main operating parameters such as ammonia concentration rate (ALR) and hydraulic retention time (HRT) were optimized to acquire the maximum removal efficiency. The linear, 2FI, quadratic, mean, and cubic models were ut...

متن کاملEffects of integrated fixed film activated sludge media on activated sludge settling in biological nutrient removal systems.
Integrated fixed film activated sludge (IFAS) is an increasingly popular modification of conventional activated sludge, consisting of the addition of solid media to bioreactors to create hybrid attached/suspended growth systems. While the benefits of this technology for improvement of nitrification and other functions are well-demonstrated, little is known about its effects on biomass settleabi...
متن کاملAeration of anaerobically digested sewage sludge for COD and nitrogen removal: optimization at large-scale.
The paper will report about the experiences at an Austrian large wastewater treatment plant of 720,000 population equivalents, where anaerobically digested sewage sludge is further stabilised under aerobic conditions. Enhanced stabilisation of the anaerobically digested sludge was required at the plant in order to get a permit for landfill disposal of the dewatered stabilized sludge. By impleme...
