CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) for future vertex detectors
This paper reviews the development of CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) for future vertex detectors. MAPS are developed in a standard CMOS technology. In the imaging field, where the technology found its first applications, they are also known as CMOS Image Sensors. The use of MAPS as a detector for particle physics was first proposed at the end of 1999. Since then, their good perform...
متن کاملRadiation Tolerance of CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors with Self-Biased Pixels
CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) are proposed as a technology for various vertex detectors in nuclear and particle physics. We discuss the mechanisms of ionizing radiation damage on MAPS hosting the the dead time free, so-called self bias pixel. Moreover, we discuss radiation hardened sensor designs which allow operating detectors after exposing them to irradiation doses above 1 Mrad.
متن کاملRecent progresses in the development of Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors
Introduction The ambitious physics goals of the CBM experiment call for unprecedented performances of its vertex detector, as well in terms of spatial resolution and material budget as for read-out speed and radiation hardness. Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) are considered as candidates for this application as they already demonstrated an excellent spatial resolution (~1.5 μm) and a low...
متن کاملPhotoresponse Analysis and Pixel Shape Optimization for CMOS Active Pixel Sensors
In this work, a semi-analytical model, based on a thorough analysis of experimental data, is developed for photoresponse estimation of a photodiode-based CMOS active pixel sensor (APS). The model covers the substrate diffusion effect together with the influence of the photodiode active-area geometrical shape and size. It describes the pixel response dependence on integration photocarriers and c...
متن کاملRadiation hardness studies on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors
CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) form a promising sensor technology for the micro vertex detector (MVD) of the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment. The technology allows for building very thin (∼ 50 μm) detectors with a spatial resolution of few μm and a satisfactory time resolution of 10 μs. It is expected that within one run of CBM, the MVD will be exposed to a radiation do...
