Optimization of the autoclave-assisted alkaline delignification of cocoa (Theobroma cacao) pod husks using KOH to maximize reducing sugars

چکیده

Cocoa pod husks are a type of biomass that is still poorly explored. This work was carried out as part the optimization delignification process for this residue with potassium hydroxide, to maximize reducing sugars content. Screening potentially influencing factors showed solvent ratio and temperature had greatest effect on process. Optimization these using composite central plan revealed quadratic model most suitable predicting rate delignification. The predicted R² (0.815) in good agreement adjusted (0.906). correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.945) between experimental results confirmed fit model. optimal conditions were 9.14% 128 °C, which resulted maximum degree 93.9%, 80% solids recovered. study found removal extractables before pretreatment considerably improved cocoa production sugars, increased from 3.15 ± 0.006 mg/mL 5.33 0.143 mg/mL. Scanning electron microscopy X-ray diffraction physicochemical changes after pretreatment.

Proximate Composition, Extraction, and Purification of Theobromine from Cacao Pod Husk (Theobroma Cacao L.)

The aims of this study were to determine the proximate composition of cacao pod husk as well as the optimal conditions for extraction and purification of theobromine from cacao pod husk. The results indicated that cacao pod husk had high contents of moisture and carbohydrate (87.06% and 11.03% by fresh weight, respectively), but low contents of crude protein, crude lipid, and ash (0.31%, 0.12%,...

Development and physical analysis of high fiber bread incorporated with cocoa (Theobroma cacao sp. ) pod husk powder

The main approach of this study is to develop high fiber bread by utilizing the cocoa-by products, namely cocoa pod husk which is incorporated into whole meal bread. The cocoa pod husk can be classified as one of the source of high fiber. The cocoa pod husk was dried and milled in order to produce the cocoa pod husk powder (CPHP). There were five different percentages of CPHP level incorporated...

Identification of procyanidins in cocoa (Theobroma cacao) and chocolate using high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.

Monomeric and oligomeric procyanidins present in cocoa and chocolate were separated and identified using a modified normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method coupled with on-line mass spectrometry (MS) analysis using an atmospheric pressure ionization electrospray chamber. The chromatographic separation was achieved using a silica stationary phase in combination with a g...
