Optimization of delamination resistance of vacuum infused glass laminate aluminum reinforced epoxy (GLARE) using various surface preparation techniques

GLARE (glass-reinforced fibre–metal laminate ) is aluminum based material of fiber metal (henceforth FML) that often fabricated by expensive autoclave procedure. In this study, the process Injected Molding or (also known as VARTM was employed a cost-effective alternative to produce GLARE. Several surface preparation procedures are applied improve interlaminar shear strength. A T3 temper 2024 alloy with 1*1 plain glass fabrics were used make composites. consists two sheet external layer and fabric internal layers. Four sets sheets prepared, one unanodized three other anodized. Three different anodizing (constant voltage mode, increasing mode decreasing mode) have been adopted in research. Two types curing treatments on specimens. According ASTM D1876 T-peel test standard, prepared specimens tested examine adhesive bonding strength fracture toughness mode-I. The obtained results which include force-displacement curves, peak loads showed significant improvement for anodized all modes. first treatment offered better than second treatment. best from specimen cured reaches six times specimen. delamination behavior verified numerically.
