Optimization of Citrus limon peel extraction, determination of main chemical components and effectiveness in repellency against Aedes mosquito dengue fever vector

Currently, scientific publications are focusing on the pharmacological actions of Citrus limon's extract and essential oil. Its oil is rich in bioactive monoterpenoids, such as D-limonene, β-pinene, γ-terpinene. limon oils have been recognized potential source natural insecticides because their selectivity, ability to be biologically degraded into non-toxic compounds, low impacts biodiversity environment. Many previous studies reported anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, hepato-regenerative, cardio-protective activities In this study, we collected discarded peel Gia Lai province utilize a material build an optimized extraction process with following criteria: solvent, solvent/sample ratio, temperature, time. The results showed stable maximum efficiency 4.02%, at 40°C, for 3 hours, two times using 95% ethanol solvent. Using GC/MS method, determined limonene content accounted 12.2% extract. exhibited potency against Aedes aegypti (arbovirus vector) concentration 0.01 mL, protection time 70 minutes biting percentage 0.9%, compared negative control statistically significant (P < 0.05). above correspond most recent about effects mosquito repellence certain plant-based oils. This study has proven that locality signifies promising candidature future regarding its main active compound, limonene, dengue-transmitting vectors.
