Optimising Dead-End Cake Filtration Using Poroelasticity Theory

چکیده

Understanding the operation of filters used to remove particulates from fluids is important in many practical industries. Typically particles are larger than pores filter so a cake layer forms on surface. Here we extend existing models for blocking account deformation material and due applied pressure that drives fluid. These deformations change permeability hence flow. We develop new theory compressible-cake filtration based simple poroelastic model which assume depends linearly local deformation. This assumption allows us derive an explicit law. The predicts possible shutdown when imposed difference sufficiently large reduce at some point zero. industrially relevant operating conditions, namely constant flux, maximising flux drop. Under these further analytical results obtained, yield predictions optimal design with respect given properties materials particles.

Cross-flow Cake Filtration Mechanisms and Kinetics

An experimental investigation of the cake filtration behaviour of 125-180 pm polyethylene particles, suspended in a neutrally buoyant Newtonian fluid, has been carried out. Static cake filtration measurements of both filtrate volume out-flow and cake thickness kinetics show the familiar t”” time dependence. In addition, the hydraulic resistance of the cake was found to be pressure independent, ...

determining optimum conditions for sugarcane juice refinement by pilot plant dead-end ceramic micro-filtration

the conditions for the refinement of clarified sugarcane juice, including temperature (50o, 60o and 70oc) and pressure (0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 bars) by micro-filtration membrane technology were investigated. the raw sugarcane juice was initially pre-filtrated with lime and then the juice obtained (clarified juice) processed using a ceramic micro-filter mem-brane (0.2 micrometer). the characteristics...

Connecting Theory to Experiment in Poroelasticity

The variables controlled and measured in elastostatic laboratory experiments (the volume changes, shape changes, connning stresses, and pore pressure) are exactly related to the appropriate variables of poroelastic eld theory (the gradients of the volume-averaged displacement elds and the volume-averaged stresses). The relations between the laboratory and volume-averaged strain measures require...

Dead-End Driven Learning

The paper evaluates the e ectiveness of learning for speeding up the solution of constraint satisfaction problems. It extends previous work (Dechter 1990) by introducing a new and powerful variant of learning and by presenting an extensive empirical study on much larger and more di cult problem instances. Our results show that learning can speed up backjumping when using either a xed or dynamic...

Dead-end filtration of natural organic matter: experimental evidence of critical conditions

Development of membranes technologies led industrials and researchers to focus on the way to optimize filtration processes in terms of quality and costs of production. In this way, this paper presents a study about determination of low fouling operating conditions in dead-end ultrafiltration of natural organic matter which leads to the definition of sustainable conditions for filtration by limi...
