Optimal testing of multiple hypotheses with common effect direction

We present a theoretical basis for testing related endpoints. Typically, it is known how to construct tests of the individual hypotheses, and the problem is how to combine them into a multiple test procedure that controls the familywise error rate. Using the closure method, we emphasize the role of consonant procedures, from an interpretive as well as a theoretical viewpoint, and introduce a ne...

Testing fuzzy hypotheses with vague data

The problem of testing fuzzy hypotheses in the presence of vague data is considered. A new method based on the necessity index of strict dominance (NSD) is suggested. An example hoe to apply the proposed test in statistical quality control is shown.

Optimal Testing of Equivalence Hypotheses

In this paper we consider the construction of optimal tests of equivalence hypotheses. Specifically, assume X1, . . . ,Xn are i.i.d. with distribution Pθ, with θ ∈ R . Let g(θ) be some real-valued parameter of interest. The null hypothesis asserts g(θ) / ∈ (a, b) versus the alternative g(θ)∈ (a, b). For example, such hypotheses occur in bioequivalence studies where one may wish to show two drug...

Bayesian Multiple Hypotheses Testing with Quadratic Criterion

The anomaly detection and localization problem can be treated as a multiple hypotheses testing (MHT) problem in the Bayesian framework. The Bayesian test with the 0-1 loss function is a standard solution for this problem, but the alternative hypotheses have quite different importance in practice. The 0-1 loss function does not reflect this fact while the quadratic loss function is more appropri...

Multiple Hypotheses Testing with Partial Prior Information

By modifying the optimal criterion of Kudo (1967), an alternative theory is developed for incorporating prior probabilities into multiple hypotheses testing. Unlike Kudo’s theory, an explicit optimal test can be obtained. It is shown that the optimal test is a natural extension of some well-known tests such as the maximum likelihood test.
