چکیده

It is demonstrated by means of the optimal control theory that energy cost spin-orbit torque induced reversal a nanomagnet with perpendicular anisotropy can be strongly reduced proper shaping both in-plane components current pulse. The time-dependence switching pulse minimizes associated Joule heating derived analytically in terms required time and material properties. providing tradeoff between speed efficiency obtained. A sweet-spot balance field-like damping-like discovered; it permits for particularly efficient down-chirped rotating whose duration does not need to adjusted precisely.

Spin–orbit torque-assisted switching in magnetic insulator thin films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

As an in-plane charge current flows in a heavy metal film with spin-orbit coupling, it produces a torque on and thereby switches the magnetization in a neighbouring ferromagnetic metal film. Such spin-orbit torque (SOT)-induced switching has been studied extensively in recent years and has shown higher efficiency than switching using conventional spin-transfer torque. Here we report the SOT-ass...

Spin-orbit torque in a bulk perpendicular magnetic anisotropy Pd/FePd/MgO system

Spin-orbit torques, including the Rashba and spin Hall effects, have been widely observed and investigated in various systems. Since interesting spin-orbit torque (SOT) arises at the interface between heavy nonmagnetic metals and ferromagnetic metals, most studies have focused on the ultra-thin ferromagnetic layer with interface perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Here, we measured the effective...

Nonuniform switching of the perpendicular magnetization in a spin-torque-driven magnetic nanopillar

Time-resolved scanning transmission x-ray microscopy measurements were performed to study the currentinduced magnetization switching mechanism in nanopillars exhibiting strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. This technique provides both short-time (70 ps) and high-spatial (25 nm) resolutions. Direct imaging of the magnetization demonstrates that, after an incubation time of∼1.3 ns, a 100 × 3...

Intrinsic spin torque without spin-orbit coupling.

We derive an intrinsic contribution to the non-adiabatic spin torque for non-uniform magnetic textures. It differs from previously considered contributions in several ways and can be the dominant contribution in some models. It does not depend on the change in occupation of the electron states due to the current flow but rather is due to the perturbation of the electronic states when an electri...

Anomalous spin-orbit torque switching due to field-like torque–assisted domain wall reflection

Spin-orbit torques (SOTs) allow the electrical control of magnetic states. Current-induced SOT switching of the perpendicular magnetization is of particular technological importance. The SOT consists of damping-like and field-like torques, and understanding the combined effects of these two torque components is required for efficient SOT switching. Previous quasi-static measurements have report...
