Optimal Management Strategies to Maximize Carbon Capture in Forest Plantations: A Case Study with Pinus radiata D. Don

چکیده
Plantations with fast-growing species play a crucial role in reducing global warming and have great carbon capture potential. Therefore, determining optimal management strategies is challenge the of forest plantations to achieve maximum rate. The objective this work determine rotation that maximize plantations. By evaluating an ecological control problem, presents method manages by planning activities such as reforestation, felling, thinning, fire prevention. mathematical model governed three ordinary differential equations: live biomass, intrinsic growth, burned area. characterization problem using Pontryagin’s principle analyzed. solutions are approximated numerically fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. To verify efficiency model, parameters for scenarios were considered: realistic one represents current forestry based on previous studies exotic Pinus radiata D. Don, another pessimistic, which considers significant losses productivity; more optimistic scenario assumes creation new areas contribute prevent increase temperature. predicts higher volume biomass scenario, consequent than other two scenarios. solution felling strategy suggests that, capture, age should be prolonged rate decreased. also confirms reforestation carried out immediately after applying effort pessimistic On hand, indicates prevention applied during life cycle plantation, proportional volume. Finally, thinning all scenarios, until time when begins.

Variation in gene expression profile with aging of Pinus radiata D. Don
Phase change in higher plants, from juvenile to mature, affects the reproductive competence, morphology and growth rate, as well as the regenerative potential of tissue explants. However, in conifers these changes can be achieved before the onset of flowering and at the beginning of the seed production. Early maturational changes in conifers are very obvious, severe and overall irreversible [1]...
متن کاملDimensional Stability of Particle Board and Radiata Pine Wood (Pinus radiata D. Don) Treated with Different Resins
Particleboard and solid wood stakes were treated with either an isocyanate or phenol formaldehyde resin and exposed in soil beds comprising three different soil types and two moisture contents. The treatments resulted in a marked improvement in the dimensional stability of particleboard but had no effect on solid wood. Higher moisture uptakes in stakes exposed in sandy soils indicated that the ...

Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to develop a model for above-ground biomass estimation for Pinus radiata D. Don in Asturias. Area of study: Asturias (NE of Spain). Material and methods: Different models were f itted for the different above-ground components and weighted regression was used to correct heteroscedasticity. Finally, all the models were refitted simultaneously by use of ...
متن کاملSummary We characterized a Pinus radiata D
We characterized a Pinus radiata D. Don putative ortholog to the Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. SHORT-ROOT gene (AtSHR) and analyzed its expression in different organs during vegetative development and in response to exogenous auxin during adventitious rooting. The predicted protein sequence contained domains characteristic of the GRAS protein family and showed a strong similarity to the SHOR...
متن کاملThe Biodiversity Benefits and Opportunity Costs of Plantation Forest Management: A Modelling Case Study of Pinus radiata in New Zealand
This study modelled the potential biodiversity benefits and the opportunity costs of a patch-clear-cutting strategy over a clear-cutting strategy for Pinus radiata in New Zealand. Patch-clear cutting is a special case of clear cutting involving the removal of all the trees from strips or patches within a stand, leaving the remainder uncut or clear cutting a series of strips or patches. A forest...
