Optimal fluid stretching for mixing-limited reactions in rough channel flows

We study the reactive displacement of two miscible fluids in channel flows and establish a quantitative link between fluid stretching chemical reactivity. At mixing interface, react according to instantaneous irreversible bimolecular reaction $A + B \rightarrow C$ . simulate advection–diffusion–reaction problem using random walk based particle method that is free numerical dispersion. The relative contributions diffusion mixing-limited controlled by changing Péclet number, roughness also systematically varied. observe optimal ranges maximize reactivity, which are captured Lagrangian measure on an effective time period honours history. show optimality originates from competition enhanced mass depletion reactants. analytically derive spatial distribution products lamellar formulation successfully predict stretching, consistent across different levels roughness. These findings provide mechanistic understanding how interplay controls reactions rough flows, hot spots can be predicted concept stretching.
