چکیده
Recent advances in integrated photonics enable the implementation of reconfigurable, high-bandwidth, and low energy-per-bit interconnects next-generation data centers. We propose evaluate an Optically Connected Memory (OCM) architecture that disaggregates main memory from computation nodes OCM is based on micro-ring resonators (MRRs), it does not require any modification to DRAM modules. calculate energy consumption real photonic devices integrate them into a system simulator performance. Our results show (1) capable interconnecting four DDR4 channels computing node using two fibers with 1.02 pJ (2) performs up 5.5× faster than disaggregated 40G PCIe NIC connectors nodes.

Disaggregated and optically interconnected memory: when will it be cost effective?
The “Disaggregated Server” concept has been proposed for datacenters where the same type server resources are aggregated in their respective pools, for example a compute pool, memory pool, network pool, and a storage pool. Each server is constructed dynamically by allocating the right amount of resources from these pools according to the workload’s requirements. Modularity, higher packaging and...

متن کاملData Sketches for Disaggregated Subset Sum Estimation
We introduce and study a new data sketch for processing massive datasets. It addresses two common problems: 1) computing a sum given arbitrary lter conditions and 2) identifying the frequent items or heavy hiers in a data set. For the former, the sketch provides unbiased estimates with state of the art accuracy. It is specically designed to handle the challenging scenario when the data is di...
متن کامل"VERNE": New packet-optical network for optically transparent and lossless data centers
Further growth of data centers is asking for scalable, low latency and cost efficient interconnection network inside data centers. In this paper, we propose a new packet-optical network called “VERNE”, aiming to satisfy the above requirements by exploiting all-optical and “lossless” operation (by “lossless” we mean operation without packet collisions during their transport from source to destin...
متن کاملTechniques for Co-Design of Optically-Connected Embedded Multiprocessors
Several trends in technology have important implications for future digital signal processing (DSP) systems. By the year 2010, integrated circuit technology will allow 800 million transistors on a single chip. Already, manufacturers are placing multiple DSP cores on a single chip. Multiprocessor systems will become increasingly important in the future. A significant challenge is to develop soft...
