Optical trapping with structured light: a review

چکیده
Optical trapping describes the interaction between light and matter to manipulate micro-objects through momentum transfer. In case of 3D with a single beam, this is termed optical tweezers. tweezers are powerful noninvasive tool for manipulating small objects, have become indispensable in many fields, including physics, biology, soft condensed matter, among others. early days, was typically accomplished Gaussian beam. recent years, we witnessed rapid progress use structured beams customized phase, amplitude, polarization trapping. Unusual beam properties, such as phase singularities on-axis propagation invariant nature, opened up novel capabilities study micromanipulation liquid, air, vacuum. We summarize advances field using beams.

REVIEW ARTICLE Optical trapping
Since their invention just over 20 years ago, optical traps have emerged as a powerful tool with broad-reaching applications in biology and physics. Capabilities have evolved from simple manipulation to the application of calibrated forces on—and the measurement of nanometer-level displacements of—optically trapped objects. We review progress in the development of optical trapping apparatus, in...
متن کاملOptical Doppler shift with structured light.
When a light beam with a transverse spatially varying phase is considered for optical remote sensing, in addition to the usual longitudinal Doppler frequency shift of the returned signal induced by the motion of the scatter along the beam axis, a new transversal Doppler shift appears associated to the motion of the scatterer in the plane perpendicular to the beam axis. We discuss here how this ...
متن کاملLight Structuring for Massively Parallel Optical Trapping
iv Abstract Optical trapping, discovered in the 70's, allows moving and stabilizing small objects which sizes varies from atoms to particles of several microns. This technique, based on momentum conservation, is particularly well suited for manipulating biological matter (cells, organelles, vesicles, functionalized particles , etc.) and offers interesting potentialities for research in biotechn...
متن کاملTrapping Light With Mirrors
We show that, given finitely many line-segment mirrors in the plane, that do not touch, and an arbitrary point source of light, if all angles made by lines parallel to mirrors are rational multiples of π, then all but countably many emitted light beams escape. This result is shown to imply that, for a given point source of light, a randomly chosen configuration of finitely many nontouching line...
متن کاملLight Trapping with Silicon Light Funnel Arrays
Silicon light funnels are three-dimensional subwavelength structures in the shape of inverted cones with respect to the incoming illumination. Light funnel (LF) arrays can serve as efficient absorbing layers on account of their light trapping capabilities, which are associated with the presence of high-density complex Mie modes. Specifically, light funnel arrays exhibit broadband absorption enh...
