Optical polarimetry of the May 2022 lunar eclipse

چکیده
ABSTRACT The sunlight reflected from the Moon during a total lunar eclipse has been transmitted through Earth’s atmosphere on way to Moon. combination of multiple scattering and inhomogeneous atmospheric characteristics that transmission can potentially polarize light. A similar (although much smaller) effect should also be observable transiting exoplanet. We present results polarization observations first 15 min totality 2022 May 16. find degrees 2.1 ± 0.4 per cent in B, 1.2 0.3 V, 0.5 0.2 R, I. Our values lie middle range those reported for previous eclipses, providing further evidence induced change event event. found no significant difference (<0.02 cent) between region dark Mare nearby bright uplands or limb regions closer disc centre due different angle incidence. This strengthens interpretation polarization’s origin being rather than by regolith.

Variations in the sky brightness during a lunar eclipse
A total lunar eclipse is conjectured to have influence on the physical conditions of an environmental area, particularly on the brightness of the sky. The phenomenon might also be relevant on weather parameters change on Earth, such as temperature, humidity and pressure, though a straightforward correlation is not easy to establish. This work mainly aims at measuring the brightness of the sky a...

We present optical polarimetry in the period May–August 2017 of the enigmatic “dipping”star KIC 8462852. During that period three ∼ 1% photometric dips were reported by other observers. We measured the average absolute polarization of the source, and find no excess or unusual polarization compared to a nearby comparison star. We place tight upper limits on any change in the degree of polarizati...
متن کاملLunar eclipse observations reveal anomalous thermal performance of Apollo reflectors
Laser ranging measurements during the total lunar eclipse on 2010 December 21 verify previously suspected thermal lensing in the retroreflectors left on the lunar surface by the Apollo astronauts. Signal levels during the eclipse far exceeded those historically seen at full moon, and varied over an order of magnitude as the eclipse progressed. These variations can be understood via a straightfo...
