Investigations of Solid-Liquid Interfaces in Helium at Ultralow Temperatures
This Thesis describes ultralow temperature studies of helium quantum crystals. Owing to the surrounding superfluid, small latent heat of crystallization and correspondingly short relaxation times, which are unreachable in ordinary crystals, helium crystals offer a unique and clean modeling system to study surface phenomena in a solid. The measurements of the crystal shape and growth rates are e...
متن کاملMgB2 HEB Mixers at Operation Temperatures above Liquid Helium Temperature
In this paper we discuss results of MgB2 thin films deposition for the hot-electron bolometer (HEB) application. For this purpose a custom made hybrid physical-chemical vapour deposition (HPCVD) system was built. For films thicknesses d in the 15-45nm range the critical temperatures were from 34K to 40K. For bridges as narrow as 500nm the critical current density was >107A/cm2 indicating a high...
متن کاملOptical pumping of helium with arc lamp excited LNA lasers
2014 We have developed a compact and relatively inexpensive laser source at 03BB =1.083 03BCm, suitable for optical pumping in helium. The laser is made of an LNA crystal transversely pumped by krypton arc lamps. A cw power of 800 mW has been achieved at 1.083 03BCm with a 3 GHz bandwidth. A 66 % nuclear polarization has been obtained in a 3He gas. Revue Phys. Appl. 24 (1989) 827-831 AOÛT 1989,
متن کاملHigh-resolution electron microscopy with superconducting lenses at liquid helium temperatures.
Following our first successful imaging experiments'-3 with high-field superconducting solenoid lenses, numerous methodological and conceptual problems remained to be solved before the specific advantages of this approach could be adequately established for high-resolution electron microscopy. These problems included: (a) incorporation of superconducting solenoid lenses and associated cryogenic ...
متن کاملHydrogen-bond-assisted excited-state deactivation at liquid/water interfaces.
The excited-state dynamics of eosin B (EB) at dodecane/water and decanol/water interfaces has been investigated with polarization-dependent and time-resolved surface second harmonic generation. The results of the polarization-dependent measurements vary substantially with (1) the EB concentration, (2) the age of the sample, and (3) the nature of the organic phase. All of these effects are ascri...
