Online microlearning and student engagement in computer games higher education

Microlearning, in which lecture recordings are segmented into parts, saw renewed focus as a means of maintaining student engagement amid the challenging conditions COVID-19 pandemic. While many institutions shifted to remote provision with recordings, there is lack consensus about length that these segments should be order best maintain engagement. Using self-reported system Likert-based diagnostics, 135 videos use at Solent University’s computer games area were analysed. Ninety-four students asked agree or disagree statements format ‘I understand X’, each tailored subject material video question. Repeated questions before and after allowed for change confidence measured, an indicator The resulting 4198 responses showed optimum range 5–8 min overall. However, year study emerged significant factor this regard – first years 6–12 min, second third under 8 min. There need institutional-level area, currently recommend far longer than either figure.
