Ongoing soil potassium depletion under intensive cropping in India and probable mitigation strategies. A review

چکیده
Potassium (K) is essential for plant growth and vital soil health. However, despite high crop demand, K fertilization continues to be ignored or severely inadequate in Indian agriculture. Over time, this could lead severe depletion of reserve, irreversibly alter K-bearing minerals, adversely affect fertility productivity. Hence, we should comprehensively assess the alarming situation mining India come up with appropriate solutions. Keeping above mind, here review pools concerning availability, their contents major orders India, reasons status under crops cropping systems impact long-term on clay minerals. We also address various aspects sustainable management agriculture suggest future action courses focusing India. Our main findings are: (i) farmers mainly apply nitrogen phosphorus, but little no K; consequently, (ii) net balance negative most across (e.g., - 3.29 million tonnes [Mt] 2000–01, 7.2 Mt 2015–16); (iii) primarily depletes exchangeable non-exchangeable soil, alters minerals extents; (iv) existing fertilizer recommendations need an upward revision. further enlist indigenous non-conventional alternatives fertilizers meet agricultural demand. This first comprehensive simultaneously ongoing its impact, potential mitigation strategies. The points raised would help reduce mining, plan research work, make policy decisions residue ultimate goal prevent health deterioration ensure production.

Arsenic Accumulation in Rice and Probable Mitigation Approaches: A Review
According to recent reports, millions of people across the globe are suffering from arsenic (As) toxicity. Arsenic is present in different oxidative states in the environment and enters in the food chain through soil and water. In the agricultural field, irrigation with arsenic contaminated water, that is, having a higher level of arsenic contamination on the top soil, which may affects the qua...
متن کاملCropping systems, tillage and fertilization strategies for durum wheat performance and soil properties
Many sustainable agronomical practices can be adopted to contain environmental risks of crop production and, at the same time, sustain yield and quality. In this framework, the aim of this research was to study the effects of continuous cropping (CC) and crop rotation, tillage and fertilization strategies on durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) production. The responses of soil properties we...
متن کاملPotassium in Atlantic Coastal Plain Soils: II. Crop Responses and Changes in Soil Potassium Under Intensive Management
Corn (Zea mays L.) grown on sandy Atlantic Coastal Plain soils is often unresponsive to applications of K fertilizer. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the response of irrigated, intensively managed corn to K applications, and to monitor changes in soil K status. Field studies were conducted for 3 yr at four sites on the Delaware Coastal Plain. Treatments consisted of 0, 94, or 2...
متن کاملFluctuations of soil bacterial communities under potato cropping
It is important to understand the underlying factors that lead to shifts in soil microbial communities, not simply for the characterization of these complex biotic systems, but also to understand the impact that changes in microbial community composition may have on terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, the impact of genetically different potato (Solanum tuberosum) plants growing in arable soi...
