One-pot electrosynthesis of ultrathin overoxidized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) films

In an aqueous electrolyte under anodic polarization, most of the conductive polymers could undergo overoxidation due to hydroxyl radicals formed during water oxidation. Regarding poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) only a few reports studied its overoxidation. this paper, we propose facile and rapid strategy prepare ultrathin (15 nm), pinhole-free non-conductive overoxidized PEDOT film by electropolymerization EDOT potentiostatic conditions in presence solely weak-acid anions monomer solution. The influence pH solution as well applied potential was notably electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It pointed out that is when electrosynthesis performed 10.5, at 1.1 V/SCE, containing ions (phosphates or carbonates). XPS analyses show some C S atoms are oxidized leading break polymer conjugation therefore decrease electronic conductivity. Finally, after adding phosphate 10.5 perchlorate allow avoid total very beginning process, nanowires were obtained.
