Once highly productive, forever highly productive? Full professors’ research productivity from a longitudinal perspective

چکیده
Abstract This longitudinal study explores persistence in research productivity at the individual level over academic lifetime: can highly productive scientists maintain relatively high levels of productivity. We examined careers 2326 Polish full professors, including their lifetime biographical and publication histories. studied promotions publications between (79,027 articles) a 40-year period across 14 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine (STEMM) disciplines. used prestige-normalized which more weight is given to articles high-impact than low-impact journals, recognizing stratified nature science. Our results show that half top assistant professors continued as associate (52.6% 50.8%). Top-to-bottom bottom-to-top transitions classes occurred only marginally. In logistic regression models, two powerful predictors belonging class for were being (increasing odds, on average, by 179% 361%). Neither gender nor age (biological or academic) emerged statistically significant. findings have important implications hiring policies: high- low-productivity may long-standing consequences institutions national science systems usually remain system decades. The Observatory Science (100,000 scientists, 380,000 publications) Scopus metadata 935,167 used, showing power combining registry data with structured Big Data profession studies.

Efficient, Highly Productive Hydrogen Production from Glucose
Our long term objective is to develop efficient and cost-effective technology for the production of hydrogen from glucose, xylose, and other cellulosic hydrolysis products. We will use cell-free technology to provide precise control over metabolic fluxes while minimizing the toxic effects of cellulosic byproducts. Initial process calculations suggest the potential for high conversion efficienci...
متن کاملHighly productive sown biodiverse pastures with low invasion risk.
Driscoll et al. (1) have recently drawn attention to the risk of new pasture plants becoming invasive, because the same biological traits that promote pasture productivity may also facilitate the invasion of natural areas. The authors indicate some aspects that could mitigate the risk of invasion: namely, the use of native species to develop new pasture plants, the avoidance of new characterist...

متن کاملThe productivity of ( non - ) productive morphology 1
Those of us who work with morphological productivity have fundamental principle which we apply in such discussions: some morphological processes are available, others are not. Those that are available may be used in the creation of neologisms, they are found (relatively) frequently in nonce-formations, they are in some sense psychologically salient, since the processes can be done and un-done (...
