On the Control Strategy to Improve the Salt Rejection of a Thin-Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membrane

Since the specific energy consumption (SEC) required for reverse osmosis (RO) desalination has been steeply reduced over past few decades, there is an increasing demand high-selectivity membranes. However, it still hard to find research papers empirically dealing with salt rejection of RO membranes and addressing SEC change possibly occurring while rejection. Herein, we examined feasibility process material approaches increase from perspective weighed up a better approach between two approaches. A was confirmed have some inherent limitations in terms trade-off water permeability Furthermore, inappropriate alter intrinsic membranes, such that should be far fundamental improvement selectivity Thus, could conclude necessary make This paper also provides discussion on demands featuring superior mechanical properties excellent water/salt permselectivity minimize membrane compaction maximizing selectivity.
