This paper unpacks the finesse and intricacies with which some of pre-colonial pre-modern sound-producing instruments were conceived built in South Asia using indigenous technologies. The argues that these technologies as sophisticated technology we know today from a Western modernist colonialist understanding it riding on ideas control, surveillance exploitation nature human resources. intends to substantiate this view had an embedded quality them makes no sense adhere hierarchy “high tech” “low tech”. suggests expanding terms media arts “TechArts” or technology-driven taxonomies, represented often by large-scale, spectacular immersive proliferated European American festivals. Given historical examples artistic practices Asia, proposes redefine what “TechArt” means, aiming decolonize field giving due credits tech-artists artisans Global South.
