Inelastic strain rate in the seismogenic layer of Kyushu Island, Japan
Seismic activity is associated with crustal stress relaxation, creating inelastic strain in a medium due to faulting. Inelastic strain affects the stress field around a weak body and causes stress concentration around the body, because the body itself has already released stress. Therefore, the understanding of inelastic deformation is important as it generates earthquakes. We investigated aver...
متن کاملa study on rate making and required reserves determination in reinsurance market: a simulation
reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...
Nonvolcanic deep tremor associated with subduction in southwest Japan.
Deep long-period tremors were recognized and located in a nonvolcanic region in southwest Japan. Epicenters of the tremors were distributed along the strike of the subducting Philippine Sea plate over a length of 600 kilometers. The depth of the tremors averaged about 30 kilometers, near the Mohorovic discontinuity. Each tremor lasted for at most a few weeks. The location of the tremors within ...
متن کاملInternal Wave Observation in Southwest Coast of Japan
This research deals with internal waves observation around southwest coast of Japan by using ERS-1/2 SAR and Topex/Poseidon (T/P) images during 1993-2002 period. Proposed method consisting of Symlet wavelet analysis and Canny edge detector can detect internal wave in SAR image. Internal waves were detected with higher wavelet coefficient than sea surface on horizontal and vertical detail coeffi...
متن کاملDetailed Analysis of Japanese Population Substructure with a Focus on the Southwest Islands of Japan
Uncovering population structure is important for properly conducting association studies and for examining the demographic history of a population. Here, we examined the Japanese population substructure using data from the Japan Multi-Institutional Collaborative Cohort (J-MICC), which covers all but the northern region of Japan. Using 222 autosomal loci from 4502 subjects, we investigated popul...
