چکیده
Background Evidence for systemic treatments severe childhood eczema is limited. Systemic immunosuppressants are unlicensed use in children and associated with unwanted side effects. Objective To examine the role of anti-immunoglobulin E (IgE) [omalizumab (Xolair ® , Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd, Frimley, UK)] young people eczema. Design A double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-arm randomised (1 : 1) trial. Setting single specialist centre – Guy’s St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London. Participants Atopic (aged 4–19 years) Interventions Treatment omalizumab or placebo 24 weeks. Main outcome measures The primary was severity, measured using objective SCORing Dermatitis (SCORAD) at Secondary outcomes included validated quality life (QoL) potent topical steroid use. Omalizumab treatment in severe adult atopic dermatitis.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common chronic skin diseases. Treatment options include lubricants, antihistamines, and corticosteroids in either topical or oral forms. Severe AD is frequently recalcitrant to these medications. We reported three cases of severe AD patients who had elevated of IgE levels and failed to response to several prior medical treatment. After being treated wit...
متن کاملOmalizumab for the treatment of atopic dermatitis.
Atopy is almost always associated with an elevated immunoglobulin (Ig) E production. Omalizumab is a monoclonal anti-IgE antibody that is currently indicated for the treatment of cases of asthma that satisfy certain criteria. A number of studies have been published on the usefulness of omalizumab in the treatment of atopic dermatitis, and the results have been variable. We present our experienc...

Case report Our patient is a boy 9.5 years old who has AD, vernal conjunctivitis, persistent rhinitis and asthma and is sensitized mainly to dust mites. His AD exists since infancy but became more intense since 3 years old. In 2010 he used intense moisturizing treatment and high-potency topical corticosteroids both pro actively and on demand and under these conditions his SCORAD levels were 21-...
متن کاملOral Selenium in the treatment of refractory severe Atopic dermatitis: Report of 4 cases
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory and pruritic skin disease with a prevalence of 10-20%. Recent studies suggested the effect of selenium on immunoregulation in AD. In this study we report 4 cases of atopic dermatitis according to Hafniin and Rajka criteria. Serum selenium levels were increased and serum total IgE were decreased in all patients. These results show that selenium i...
متن کاملRecalcitrant atopic dermatitis treated with omalizumab.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic cutaneous inflammatory disease. Various categories of therapeutic medications are used for treating AD. Omalizumab is a monoclonal anti-IgE antibody that binds to IgE molecules at the high-affinity receptor (FcepsilonRI) binding site. Therefore, omalizumab can be used as a potential new systemic treatment agent for recalcitrant AD patients with elevated IgE l...
