Older Adults’ Life Satisfaction: The Roles of Seeking Financial Advice and Personality Traits

This paper uses 1,237 respondents from the Health and Retirement Study dataset to examine relationships among personality, financial advice-seeking, life satisfaction of U.S. older adults. The results indicate that extraversion is negatively associated with seeking professional advice, while conscientiousness openness were positively advice. Individuals a neurotic personality trait advice families friends. Additionally, being extraverted conscientious, implications for therapists counselors include suggestions implementation cross-functional collaborative counseling strategies when working clients who may be experiencing physical mental health-related problems. Implications findings policymakers are also discussed.
