AbstractOcean liners in Canadian literature This article explores the idea of ocean liner literary imagination, asking how it has transformed from a functional machine into powerful symbol, and become focus for dreams terrors. The research encompasses English French novels poems which represent passenger experience on liner. Beginning with narratives emigration, discussion moves to travel writing context empire then stories shipwreck war, fictions voyage as rite passage, evocations glamour interwar travel, finally about holidays.RésuméCet explore le motif du paquebot dans l’imaginaire littéraire canadien, en se demandant comment il s’est transformé d’une fonctionnelle un symbole puissant, et est devenu objet de fantasme d’inquiétude. La recherche englobe des romans poèmes canadiensfrançais canadiens-anglais qui représentent l’expérience passagers sur paquebot. En commençant par les récits d’émigration, la passe aux contexte colonial XIXe siècle, puis naufrage guerre, comme évocations traversées l’entredeux-guerres, enfin écrits vacances.
