Observing cultural competence of healthcare professionals: A systematic review of observational assessment instruments

Observational instruments are preferred for assessment of cultural competence. The aim the current study is to identify observational assess competence in healthcare providers and dieticians specifically their psychometric properties. A systematic review was conducted Cinahl, Cochrane, EMBASE, PsycInfo, Pubmed, Web Science using search terms related competency measurement Methodological quality selected studies dieticians, other professionals psychological counsellors properties were assessed COSMIN checklist. From 11,913 articles, six articles on five selected. Instruments targeted at health only, designed face-to-face communication (n = 4) or verbal responses videotaped simulated interactions 1). instruments’ content varied largely, with main focus attitude, little knowledge skills. suboptimal. No instrument available evaluate dieticians. Studies lack methodological rigour. Future work should developing an that encompasses both ‘general’ competences necessary all dietetic specific competences.
