Obesity and visceral fat: Indicators for anemia among household women visiting a health camp on world obesity day

BackgroundObesity and anemia are among most common non-communicable diseases not only in India but around the world. These conditions observed together more females. Obesity being a risk factor for various lifestyle disease, is hypothesized to affect iron absorption hence level of hemoglobin.ObjectivesTo find prevalence obesity given sample population out factors affecting anemia.MethodsA cross sectional study was done married females visiting health camp on World Day. They were assessed using self-administered semi-structured questionnaire anthropometric examination. Basic clinical examination, body fat analysis blood indices also done.ResultsThe mean age participants found be 30.27 ± 5.3 years. 487 (70.78%) obese with BMI >23 kg/m2 61 (8.86%%) anemic. Increasing age, education level, menstrual flow, gravida, parity significantly associated obesity. Among who anemic, majority (86.9%) had low visceral fat, suggesting relationship metabolism related peripheral deposition much (p < 0.05).ConclusionOur findings suggest there need carry in-depth longitudinal multicentric studies larger see exact between fat/obesity as our study, very less thus giving confusing results about total relation anaemia.
