Nutrient dynamics from surface‐applied organic matter amendments on no‐till orchard soil

چکیده

Advancing conservation agriculture depends on understanding nutrient dynamics of organic matter amendments (OMA) no-till soil. This field incubation study compared surface-applied composted dairy manure (CM), green waste compost (GWC) and an unamended control from March to September in 2015 2016 using a RCBD California almond (Prunus dulcis) orchard. Measurements included OMA release rates, changes soil carbon (SOC), total N (TN) inorganic N, P K availability in-season sampling collection ion exchange resin (IER) membranes 0 10 cm depth, cumulative IER cores 50 depth. We hypothesized sources with lower initial C:N increase availability, greater soluble phosphorus (P) potassium (K) concentrations all SOC the greatest recovery TN pool. No differences were observed C, while rate was greatest. In-season showed no effect but differed as evidenced by adsorption extractable K. Both significantly increased TN. Net mineralization ranged 0.7% 8.0% applied pools based C:N. These results advance our conserving due practice OMA.

Soil Aggregate, Organic Matter and Microbial Dynamics under Different Amendments after 27 Years of Mine Soil Development

Physical and biological properties of soils developing from spoil material following surface coal mining in southwest Virginia are poorly understood. Additionally, the effects of various types of soil amendments such as sawdust, topsoil or biosolids on long-term soil development are lacking in the current literature. The objective of this study was to examine water stable aggregation, organic m...

Age of Soil Organic Matter and Soil Respiration: Radiocarbon Constraints on Belowground C Dynamics

Radiocarbon data from soil organic matter and soil respiration provide powerful constraints for determining carbon dynamics and thereby the magnitude and timing of soil carbon response to global change. In this paper, data from three sites representing well-drained soils in boreal, temperate, and tropical forests are used to illustrate the methods for using radiocarbon to determine the turnover...

Evaluation of Soil Amendments for Certified Organic Pepper Production

Introduction Based on the interest among organic farmers in Iowa for an unbiased analysis of the many natural soil amendment/fertilizer and compost products on the market for certified organic vegetable and herb crop production, several experiments have been conducted (Delate 1999). According to the USDA Economic Research Service, statistics on organic production in the U.S. lag far behind thos...

Organic and inorganic nitrogen amendments to soil as nematode suppressants.

Inorganic fertilizers containing ammoniacal nitrogen or formulations releasing this form of N in the soil are most effective for suppressing nematode populations. Anhydrous ammonia has been shown to reduce soil populations of Tylenchorhynchus claytoni, Helicotylenchus dihystera, and Heterodera glycines. The rates required to obtain significant suppression of nematode populations are generally i...

Enhancing Soil Quality and Plant Health Through Suppressive Organic Amendments

The practice of adding organic amendments to crop soils is undergoing resurgence as an efficient way to restore soil organic matter content and to improve soil quality. The quantity and quality of the organic matter inputs affect soil physicochemical properties and soil microbiota, influencing different parameters such as microbial biomass and diversity, community structure and microbial activi...
