Numerical Study on Hydraulic Characteristics and Discharge Capacity of Modified Piano Key Weir with Various Inlet/Outlet Width Ratio

A modified piano key weir with a rounded nose and parapet wall (MPKW) can improve the discharge capacity significantly compared to standard weir. However, optimum of inlet/outlet width ratio (Wi/Wo) on efficiency MPKW is still not investigated numerically. The present work utilized numerical modeling investigate analyze effects ratios hydraulic characteristics MPKW. To validate model experimental data, results indicate that average relative error 2.96%, which confirms fairly well predictthe specifications flow over Numerical simulation indicated be improved up 8.5% by optimizing Wi/Wo ranging from 1.53 1.67 even if other parameters keep unchanged. big generally leads an increase in at low heads little effect high heads. inlet outlet crests increases 9.6% for heads, while lateral crest decreases 23.5% reference model. findings study revealed intrinsic influencing mechanism performance MPKWs.
